i'm sure you'd take it but there's no way you're getting scheifele and the contract he's on for anderson, nutivaara and 2 (late?) first round picks

Hilariously delusional!!! None of those stars are getting traded for that offer no matter how much fairy dust you sprinkle on it....

Why not just make that same offer for McDavid or Matthews?

Get away from Scheifele.
Or offer way more.
Your choice.

There was never any question of oreillys value. He was a 50-60 pt 2 way forward capable of 2nd line center duties. His dollar value was somewhat high at the time of 7.5, which played a role in the cap crunch in Buffalo. At the time of the trade, perceived value was had by both teams. No one could see Berglunds eventual departure, and he was seen as a 2nd to 3rd line forward good for 35-40pts at a good cap hit

It’s all hindsight at this point, but this Monday QB talk is forgetting several factors in this trade

I'm not sure there is anything Columbus could offer Fla for them to trade Barkov. ROR is a great player but Barkov is a top 10 player.

This was a well written post.

But some of those players you might consider available really aren't unless the players are causing problems for their organization. Atkinson could theoretically be available since CBJ is about to take a big hit. Gaudreau maybe. Larkin would be more of a "sell" than a hockey trade, so if someone throw them two firsts, a former first, etc, they might get Larkin.

The other players, especially MacKinnon aren't going anywhere. The Avs are a team on the rise, perhaps missing just a second line center and a decent winger before they become contenders: their D is filled out, much of their line-up is filled out, their goaltending is filled out. They and Dallas are darn close to contention: they're buyers, not sellers.

Giroux

for

2020 1st
2022 1st
Dubois
Peeke or Carlsson

Wow that's a tough call, but I think I would do it

Update: Not sure Giroux would waive to go to Columbus, almost a 0% chance of it

Who is this guy??

This article is nonsense. “It rarely works out for the team acquiring the superstar”??? Huh?

It nearly always works out well for the team acquiring the superstar

Agreed that most of the time players of this caliber are not moved unless there some sort of problem with them and their team. Rather than just saying CBJ making this offer, could the Avs make a play for Larkin/Gaudreau/Atkinson similarly. Not necessarily limiting the conversation to CBJ acquiring players, but teams on the cusp looking a big names under contract.

I could see some of these teams that are close throwing out big trade offers given the ROR results.

Doesn't seem so far fetched, the hurdle would be selling it to Giroux. Given what happened with Jeff Carter, CBJ would want to do their due diligence in getting buy-in from Giroux before executing a trade.

This isn’t NHL 19. You’re not going to get any of those players with a pair of 1st round picks and other mediocre players, especially if the BJs picks are 20+ In the draft

At the time I was more interested in the picks here - I personally thought the Blue's first rounder was going to be in the top ten so when they had that huge turnaround half way through the season this trade turned sour quickly.

In order to hedge that, our GM should have asked for a better prospect of theirs, especially considering the two cap dumps the sabres were taking on.

Overall I was meh at the trade at the time with some moderate upside. I just find it hard to believe this was the best package avail for ROR.

That pick from STL was top ten protected so Buffalo wasn't getting it if we hadn't turned it around in the second half of the season.

Are you retarded? No seriously, because I don’t want to pick on someone that is slow... all star players and you’re offering picks from future years oh and here, have a few scrubs off your roster. Just stupid.

That means they defer it to next year, unprotected I believe? I still considered the Blues in pretty rough shape, but man oh man did they prove me wrong.
